After a consultation with Dr Hussain, I was given an appointment for a procedure for basal cell carcinoma. This all happened in a very short space of time. I had Mohs surgery at Chapel Allerton Hospital, ward C4. This was a two-stage procedure to remove cancerous cells on an area behind my ear. Throughout the whole process I felt at ease and confident that I was in safe hands. Dr Hussain is a very skilled surgeon, and he, with his lovely team of nursing staff treated me with care and friendliness.
I am very pleased with my choice of surgeon and am more than happy to recommend him.
I was immediately pleased, impressed, and reassured with the speed of my initial appointment with Dr Hussain following my referral by my Dermatology Consultant in Harrogate, which - having been accelerated by the facility of a "zoom" appointment- was within 2 weeks of referral.
Thereafter, just a further 2 weeks before my surgery date at Chapel Allerton [ basal cell carcinoma - inner ear] which involved a 3 stage procedure including a skin graft from neck to ear, all dealt with via local anaesthetic within a single afternoon session.
I returned for stitches and dressing removal one week later and then again for a brief review after a further 2 weeks to confirm all was healing well.
I will return for a final observation by Dr Hussain in 3 months time, by which point I fully expect there to be no visible signs of the surgery whatsoever.
A clever guy, this man, ably assisted by a delightful, personable and efficient nursing team.
The operation I had was to remove cells from the side of the nose, very near to my left eye. Ensuring there was no damage to the eye/tear ducts in particular added to the challenge of the operation. Also because of the location the operation could have required two or three stages , to remove all the necessary cells, testing each removal in the lab as proceeding instead of taking out the normal safety margin around the damaged tissue. I am pleased to say that the outcome was fully successful in cutting out the required cells at stage one thanks to the skill of the surgeon.
Importantly, for me as a patient, I was kept informed of what was to happen in advance of each stage and I felt more than confident in the team. It was a real profession but friendly team working together in good spirit that really made a potentially challenging operation, for me, so easy to go through.
Follow up after the operation confirmed the successful outcome and I am hard pressed to tell that the operation too place.
I was treated for basal cell carcinoma on my nose.
One side of my nose had to be removed completely during Moh's procedure and then a skin flap created to carry out the nasal reconstruction 4 weeks later. Part of my ear also needed to be used in the reconstruction.
It was a complicated and very clever procedure - well it seemed so to me! - but I was put at my ease at every stage and had everything explained.
The follow up care was frequent and thorough, and gave me confidence throughout.
The results are a lot better than I anticipated - almost normal after 2 months.
The whole team at C4 are so professional and caring.
I can't think of anything that could improve the service given.
Incredibly skilled; personable; relatable and able to communicate effectively with my teenage daughter.
